The vision for Jindee is to create an exceptional place for people to work, live and play that reflects our unrivalled coastal location. We love the timeless architectural proportions, sweeping front verandahs and community-focused living, a design concept that emphasises creating places that people are proud of and love.
Jindee has spent over 17 years negotiating with local and state governments to create a coastal village that draws on the best of past and present town planning. Designed by internationally acclaimed Architects and Urban Planners, Duany Plater-Zyberk, who are behind some of the worlds most famous townships such as Seaside in Florida.
‘Jindee is going to change the property industry in Australia’
Milly Main, founder of Street Level Australia said that Jindee sets the benchmark for residential development in Australia. This is exemplified through our new urbanist master planning and key design influence from the most loved coastal areas of Perth; Fremantle, Cottesloe and Rottnest.
Street Level Australia advocates for policy and public procurement change to make Australian places more beautiful, healthy, and humane. Milly has recognised that Jindee is setting a new standard in beachside living, embracing the best of the highly desirable WA lifestyle through quality architecture, and considered urban design.
‘Jindee is a first-of-its-kind residential development in Australia that promises to change the way suburbs are built in our country — should policymakers and other major developers take note and learn. Nestled in between big-box stores and standard house-and-land estates and the beautiful, sapphire-blue Indian Ocean, Jindee is set to become one of the best places to live in the world.’
Jindee is based on new urbanism principles that foster quality of life, and social interaction and safety through walkability, access to public open spaces and amenities. Our holistic approach to planning takes the individual features of the land, buildings, streets and landscaping and brings them together to provide a ‘human-scaled’ environment, focused on liveability and lifestyle.
‘Jindee is full of winding walkways, points of interest and compelling nooks and crannies. Like Seaside, its inspiration in Florida, it will mature into a village with lots of places for kids to explore, for adults and families to gather and for incidental points of contact as part of day-to-day life.’
By developing connected places which encourage people to walk, use local services and even get to know one another better. Our fresh approach to urban planning recognises that a healthy mix of live/work/play activities invigorates a community.
‘The community vibes are already there — even though it’s still being built. When we visited Jindee, only some of the streets had been built. We met Bob, a big advocate for Jindee and its community atmosphere. He was building a new letterbox for his neighbour. In the rear laneway, someone else was spontaneously landscaping his neighbours’ garden beds.
The vibe in Jindee was already similar to that of a close-knit country town. Jindee has attracted people who want this sense of community, and its design promotes neighbourly interaction. It is clearly going to be the kind of place where kids on bikes roam free and people gather to chat on the street.’
Jindee is becoming a charming coastal village that draws on the best of both the past and present town planning principles, sensitive architecture, and a close connection to the ocean to achieve a development that is designed for people.
‘Jindee was planned for people, with extensive upfront community engagement. While residents still own cars, they are in laneways garages behind the house — leaving the front of the house for a verandah, a much better use of space – Jindee is designed for people, not cars.’
At Jindee, home designs encourage living to the front of the home with social interaction and discrete surveillance, at the same time a connection to the surrounding neighbourhood, without the bleakness of a front garage.
The architecture at Jindee was developed based on vernacular Australian styles with modern amenities and layouts. The developer has ensured that every small detail of the design is consistent, meaning that small deliberate decisions contribute to an overall sense of pleasing beauty.
When it comes right down to it, new urbanism is simply about giving people better places to live, work and play – the best quality of life possible. Jindee is a great example of these principles, with a strong focus from the very beginning on creating a sense of community closeness and a shift away from sprawling developments. Parks and public spaces located centrally, streets designed for walking, garages located at the rear of houses and essential services within walking distance are just some of the things that make our community a great place to live.
