At Jindee, our vision is to create a premium coastal village connected to the sea. With contemporary architecture that resonates timelessness and relaxed Western Australian living.
Verandahs are a fundamental component to the carefully crafted Architectural Standards within the Jindee Estate. All Jindee homes will be built with a charming front verandah that connects households to the neighbourhood.
As our thriving coastal community continues to grow, we asked Jindee local, Violeta to give us her insight into living at Jindee and why verandahs are one of the main reasons she chose to call Jindee home.
In coastal communities around the world, verandahs have traditionally been used to create a direct link between the private space of the home to the public space of the street. Notable design inspiration for Jindee comes from Seaside, Florida due to the timeless character and community-focused living seen throughout the popular tourist destination.
An important feature in the vision for Jindee draws inspiration from Seaside’s concept of promoting interaction among the community’s residents through verandahs. Violeta credits her family travels as being a major influencer in moving to Jindee, “If not for the verandah, we would not have bought at Jindee. I have liked the idea of a verandah on a home since visiting New Orleans in the US. We went there a couple of years ago and loved the colour and the front porches.”
Jindee’s Architectural Standards encourage a friendly community environment through the utilisation of verandahs to the front of the home, allowing residents to interact with their neighbours in a friendly and informal way. This inviting neighbourhood atmosphere is already well established by the Jindee residents as Violeta revealed, “I liked the idea of our home having a verandah, but I also liked the idea of the whole street having verandah’s, it’s more neighbourly. You know your neighbours and people say hi and have a chat. You don’t get that anywhere else around here.”,
The Jindee Architectural Standards also accommodate the need for individual expression and the preservation of value for all. All the homes at Jindee have their own character and style, each a reflection of its owner.
Verandahs are the welcoming entrance to the home, making it the perfect space to highlight your own personal style and presence in the street. Violetta shared the personal touches she has added to make it her own sanctuary, “I had a vision for the verandah when we designed the home. I have two large pots to each side of the front door with a bird of paradise in each one, but I mostly wanted something green and lush, I like that look. We have a bench seat which is really comfortable to one side of the verandah and on the other side we have two chairs and a table, like a small bistro setting, with a bench seat which means we can all sit together and have a tea or a coffee.”. The architecture at Jindee tells a story about the people and the place, enriching the lifestyle of both people living and visiting the estate.
Careful consideration in the designing of your verandah is essential in ensuring you make the most of the superior coastal location and show off your personal style. Violeta advised, “Look at the orientation of your home and verandah. Our verandah works well because we get the sun and we can look at the park. I would recommend thinking about how much sun you will get and place the furniture to work with that. Put furniture on your verandah and use it.”
When considering the design of your verandah, there are endless design and style options available. As well as the high-quality materials that can be used, the style of roof is also an important feature of a verandah, like bullnose, concave, ogee and convex or you can opt for a straight roof verandah like Violetta. To further add visual appeal, adding balustrading or the attachment of verandah screens and shutters can add an element of privacy and shading. Violeta revealed her latest design additions since moving in, “We added the gate at the top of the stairs for the dog, to keep him in and when the weather was starting to get hot, we added a blind to the Western end of the verandah.” .
Well-designed verandah’s form highly functional outdoor living rooms where you can relax and socialise with friends, neighbours, and those just those passing by. Living with a verandah has come naturally to Violeta, “The verandah is definitely part of the house. It’s, like having another room in the house. We have downsized to live at Jindee, and we don’t miss the extra space we had, because we have the verandah.”. No matter what size your home is, a verandah is a welcoming addition that adds both value and street appeal.
From sipping cocktails in the Jindee sunshine to snuggling up with a book during the downpour of winter, verandahs allow you to enjoy the outdoors all year round, just like Violeta, “We use it as a room and watch the kangaroos come to the park in the evening, eating the greens. It is very quiet and peaceful at night. We’ll take a break, and all sit out there for 10-15 minutes and then continue with what we are doing. I can invite my sister over and sit there or one of my neighbours might call in and we sit in the sun on the verandah”.
The nostalgic memory of life lived on verandahs is still etched in the hearts of many West Australians today. Bringing beauty back to neighbourhood living is essential in the creation of Jindee.
Life is meant to be relaxed, unhurried and reminiscent of being on a holiday. Violeta explains, “The best thing about living at Jindee I think is the atmosphere. It feels like you are not in Perth, but you have all the benefits of being in Perth; it’s like living in a country town. It’s like you’re away somewhere, like having a weekend away. It’s peaceful but with the social aspect, it’s friendly.
We have always gone to Walpole for holidays. The way we designed our home is like a cabin with the Walpole feeling in mind. And living at Jindee is like the Walpole feeling with the kangaroos, hearing the ocean, and smelling the eucalypts.
When moving to Jindee, you’re not just acquiring an exclusive coastal address, but a community of new friends. A place to immerse yourself in different experiences and take life at a slower pace by the ocean.
